The Waffle Pals Comics

I’ve created short punchy comics series of three waffle pals working their way through life & problems they face everyday. I learned how to create concise, engaging stories, dialogue, panel layout, line art, color storytelling.

Rocket Skateboard Baby Comic

Panel 1: Establishing shot: We are above a barren desert with a single two-lane road. Looking down we see there’s a local gas station/garage on one side of the road. On the other is an Ice Cream stand. There are a few cars parked around the gas station lot waiting to be worked on. There is a car parked at the Ice Cream stand. Everything is kind of crappy looking, as if it’s been there for decades. A couple is standing out front. They are placing their order.

Panel 2: Panning down. We are now over the shoulder of the couple, but they are not the focus of what we’re looking at. In the distance down the road we see an approaching cloud. There’s something moving down the road toward us at a high rate of speed.

Panel 3: An old man walks out of the garage of the gas station. He’s wearing a hat and dirty uniform making it clear he works at the garage. He’s got his head turned looking down the road at the now closer and larger dust cloud.

Panel 4: With their ice cream cones in hand, the couple notice that something is approaching as they turn their heads in shock.

Panel 5: Something flies between the two buildings at a high rate of speed. It’s too fast for us to see, but the old man and the couple are nearly knocked off their feet by the rush of wind and shockwave of sound.

Panel 6: We are again high above the little town. Even higher than last time. We now see the cause of the dust and destruction. It is a baby with a rocket powered skateboard.

Panel 1: Establishing shot: New York City building. Be sure to show us a nice clear shot of the city on a regular afternoon.

Panel 2: A man and woman are in an office. The woman is seated at a desk with the office windows behind her. It’s clear she’s high above the street. She has a coffee mug on her desk. The woman is not happy. The man is walking in the room, opening an office door. The door has a glass window. Outside the woman’s office there’s a busy office full of people doing office things.

Panel 3: A medium shot of the woman. She’s saying something to the man with a frustrated look. We notice a couple birds flying by behind her.

Panel 4: The man looks confused as he replies.

Panel 5: In a two shot the man and woman continue to have a heated conversation. We can see into the coffee mug, and the coffee shows signs of moving, like there’s a vibration in the floor. Now there are even more birds flying by the window.

Panel 6: “BANG BANG BANG” The woman and the man suddenly react to a loud noise!!

NOTE: Throughout this page there continue to be more and more birds of all kinds are flying past the office window outside.

Panel 1: A teenager delivering a small pizza and a bottle of soda appears. He had been knocking on the glass of the office door.

Panel 2: The woman hands the teenager a small wad of cash as the kid sets the pizza and drinks on the desk. We see the coffee, and there’s more movement.

Panel 3: The man continues to talk, trying to be charming, as the woman opens the pizza box to grab a slice.

Panel 4: The man holds up photos of a chicken, as the woman rolls her eyes and takes a bite of her piping hot pizza, gooey melted cheese strings to her mouth. Birds in the background.

Panel 5: A close up on the photos reveals the chicken is the size of a city bus.

Panel 6: The woman is shocked as she spits out her food

Panel 1: The woman grabs the photos, as the man, looking down at his clothes, brushes pizza and spit off his shirt. We notice the coffee is now about to fall off the desk, but there’s nothing near it, but other things in the office are now rattling.

Panel 2: The woman now standing is holding up the photos, excitedly pointing at them. As the view behind her is now almost fully blocked by panicked birds flying away from something.

Panel 3: We are now behind the woman, looking at the shocked expression of the man. He’s pointing past the woman to something behind her.

Panel 4: We are still behind the woman, but now she’s turned her head and upper body to look behind her in stunned shock and terror to see…
